Alberta Netcare Onboarding
To obtain access to Alberta Netcare and related initiatives, facilities must go through the implementation process before completing individual user registration. eHealth Services will assess your facility’s needs and support you in meeting all technical, training, and privacy and security requirements.
Facility Onboarding Steps:

Step 2: Complete Privacy and Security Requirements
Under the Health Information Act (HIA), custodians must submit a PIA to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC) prior to implementing administrative practices and information systems relating to the collection, use or disclosure of individually identifying health information.
The PIA is a due diligence tool for identifying and addressing privacy risks that may occur within a practice or information system and it includes an examination of organizational privacy practices.

Provincial Organizational Readiness Assessment (pORA)
The HIA requires custodians to protect the confidentiality and security of health information by establishing and upholding procedures aimed at reducing the risk of inappropriate access to databases containing personal health information. To address this regulatory framework, the pORA serves as a security assessment for community facilities that want to access Alberta Netcare applications. It evaluates a set of minimum administrative, physical and technical security requirements that when met, will mitigate associated risks.

Information Manager Agreement (IMA)
The IMA is a legal agreement between Alberta Health (the information manager for Alberta Netcare) and the participating authorized custodians. It governs the custodian’s access to Alberta Netcare Portal (ANP) and establishes the terms, conditions, and restrictions under which this access is granted. Custodians must agree to the terms and sign the IMA to receive access. By signing the IMA, custodians and the information manager agree to abide by the rules of the Information Exchange Protocol (IEP).
